OSPF: unicast instead of multicast explanation?

"If the OSPF link is on a Non Broadcast Multi Access link, such as a frame relay, the OSPF packet will be a unicast rather than multicast." anyone explain this?

Troubleshooting 101

While working on an OSPF lab we discover that Router A wasn't advertizing the network the connecting link was on. IT could be pinged but did not show up in the router table which we discover by running the "show ip OSPF interface" command. so to rectify the issue we re added the network to OSPF with its appropriate wild card mask.

OSPF route mapping

Since OSPF is a link-state protocol and builds its own database of the entire network rather than relying on the routing tables of other routers, how does that effect its network mapping speed and reliability?

Thoughts

Thoughts as of today: this feels like I am trying to dissect a whale. :) There is a ton of information to not only absorb but also a theory to understand behind what is actually happening in the background so it still feel a bit overwhelming even though I have learned or relearned somethings that weren't as clear to me previously such as sub-netting and how a wild card mask works.

Capstone One Blog

This is an exploratory blog to discuss questions as the rise during Paul Browning's 60 Day to a CCNA crash course with two friends, Dave and Matt as we each tackle the class. The long term goal is to narrow the field of choices for my capstone project as well by tying together the two emphasizes--psychology and computer networking.
